MIAMI – Murray Law, P.A. is pleased to announce that Jerome A. Jackson was selected as the 2013 Murray Law Franchise Scholar. Jackson will spend ten weeks this summer working on a variety of franchise law projects at Murray Law under the guidance of the firm's attorneys and will receive a $5,000 scholarship. "It is truly an honor and a privilege to have been selected as Murray Law's first Franchise Scholar," Jackson said. "Franchising establishments account for a significant percentage of all establishments in many important lines of business, and I look forward to the learning experiences, legal training, and great opportunities that Murray Law has to offer."
Jackson is a rising second-year Juris Doctor candidate at the University of Miami School of Law. Prior to law school, he served as the North America Analyst Relations Manager for TIBCO Software Inc. Jackson received his Bachelor of Arts in Science, Technology, and Society from Stanford University in June 2010. From a group of very strong applicants, Jackson was selected because of his strong track-record of leadership, his continuous history of academic success, and his potential to grow into a distinguished attorney. Murray Law welcomes Jerome Jackson as the inaugural recipient of the scholarship and looks forward to future recipients.
The mission of this scholarship is to increase the number and success of minority lawyers serving the franchise industry, which is making a conscious effort to become more diverse. Several progressive franchisors have developed financial incentives and diversity programs to lower or remove the most significant threshold barrier to minority entry into franchise systems – the lack of financial resources. Jason M. Murray, President & CEO of Murray Law, stated that "As the franchise industry becomes more diverse, we need to prepare more talented minority lawyers to service the needs of the industry."
Murray Law provides counsel and assistance with creating, managing, licensing, protecting and enforcing franchised business relationships, product distribution systems, and dealership networks. Murray Law's practice specifically relates to licensing and development, regulation and compliance, and dispute resolution through mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
